Pure Newborn Sweetness – Newborn Photographer

This is Kate. Totally and completely beautiful Kate.

Kate is the newborn (2 days old in these photos!!!) daughter of my dearest friend, Kim. Some of you know Kim because she used to shoot weddings with me. That is, before her husband had to take a job in NJ, anyway!! But back to Kate… I recently went to NJ (Burrr…) to be with Kim during the last days of her pregnancy and it turns out that my timing was perfect! I was able to help Kim get to the hospital on time (barely…Baby Kate was born in the Triage room–it was JUST like something out of a sit com. Or more of a drama, I guess. No…looking back, it was definitely a sit com!) Either way, it was truly an HONOR to witness this little gem come into the world to join her big brother and wonderful, loving family. Kate is a lucky little girl–she has one hell of a mommy!!! It was also an honor to witness my best friend as she blissfully held her baby daughter in her arms and cried. I get goose bumps remembering…

My flight back to CA left the morning after Kate arrived home from the hospital so we had just enough time to snap a couple shots before running out the door. I’m glad we did. This is pure, squishy, adorable sweetness. I love you Kim and Josh and Jackson and Kate!!!!

lindsay and jonathan – wine country photographer

Lindsay and Jonathan are an absolutely adorable couple and I had been so looking forward to their shoot! They must have very good karma because on the day of the session we ended up with some very beautiful and very dramatic lighting–soft overcast skies, storm clouds looming, and then the sun breaking through just before sunset–sheer perfection!!! They are so comfortable together and we had a great time! Some of my favorites…

Happy New Year!

With 2011 upon us I’ve been doing a lot of thinking–thinking about how to improve my life in little ways. I’m trying to streamline and remove clutter. And by clutter, in mean a lot of different things–I hope to go through old magazines, check off my work to-do list faster, cancel unused credit cards, and most importantly, remove some of the emotional/life clutter that builds up in people.

Last year I took on a lot of different projects–from photography related projects to volunteer projects. I have decided to eliminate some of them and practice saying “no”. By doing less, everyone will get more–my clients, my friends and my family. I am aiming to be a better photographer, mom and all-around person. There. I am accountable for it–I said it out loud. Wish me luck! LOL!

One of the items on my list that I absolutely cannot eliminate, however, is my involvement with Girls on the Run. This is an absolutely amazing organization that helps young girls develop the skills necessary to have self-respect, make good choices and be confident and comfortable with who they are–just the way they are. The girls go through 10 weeks of preparations and lessons and end the session by running a 5K. Last fall I was involved with such a special group of girls, grades 3-5, who touched my heart. They poured forth raw emotion and excitement and it melted my heart to watch them become more confident little ladies. In some ways my involvement felt selfish as I gained as much joy from the running sessions as the girls did! I am really looking forward to the spring training. Here is a collage of the girls:

Lucy and Rick were so much fun to shoot–after talking to them I learned that Lucy loves all things romantic, whimsical and vintage. And I think the session is exactly that! It’s very “them”, as people say. This session was shot only 2 weeks before their beautiful Nestldown wedding so be on the lookout for more romantic photos of these two VERY soon!

It’s time! It’s time! (Actually…it’s been time for a while.) We are ready to take on an intern! Help me pass the word and find the perfect person to fill this position!

Jennifer Kloss Photography is looking for a photography OR graphic design intern to show off their talent. This is a flexible position–the only requirement is a willingness to take initiative! You will walk away with a complete understanding of what it takes to run a photography studio and maintain clients.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of Photoshop, have great communication skills and be very attentive to details.

Duties may include: general office work, vendor communications, album layout, updating the blog, assisting at on-location shoots. Duties may be tailored to reflect your interests. This may be a paid internship, DOE.

helen turns one – napa family photography

We recently celebrated Helen’s first birthday. Whew–the first birthday is such a milestone for parents. It feels HUGE to have survived the sleepless nights, the teething, the etc. It just feels good. So I wanted to take a quick minute today to post a pic of Helen on her birthday, and a pic of her gorgeous cake made by the very talented Amber McKenney of Sweet on Cake.

And to my little girl, I know you can’t read this, but I want to say it to the world…You are truly a light. You have a brightness and a beauty and a fire inside of you that make me so excited to watch you grow. I already admire you and see so much in you that I wish I was. I cannot wait to watch and learn from your grace and excitement as you get older. You make me smile and you warm my heart. My favorite thing in the morning is to hold you tight and feel your warmth and love. Always hold tight that light and fire you have inside you very dear, little H. It will serve you well. Je t’aime.

reiko, chris and mochi – family portrait photography in los angeles

While we were in Southern California recently I met up with Reiko and Chris, whose gorgeous wedding I shot last summer, to take some photos with their current family–Reiko and Chris plus Mochi! I had a great time hanging out with them at their home and in their neighborhood. I really, really enjoy my clients and the relationships we build. I look forward to watching this family grow even bigger in years to come!!!

A cute little story…While we were shooting, Reiko sent my husband off with our kids and a big box of cupcakes to the park nearby. So today I had to smile when Jack walked into my office, saw the photos on my screen, and happily exclaimed, “Mommy–that girl gave me cupcakes and I ate them at the park!” Then he skipped out of the room. I guess Reiko and Chris made a lasting impression on him. LOL!

Thank you Reiko and Chris for welcoming me into your lives. And also for the cupcakes!

I am so behind on blogging. It’s one of those tasks that I keep pushing off to the side because it seems too overwhelming to get caught up. So….I’m starting with a clean slate today! I may get caught up, I may not, but I promise to blog more often. So…if you haven’t seen your session on here, it’s only because I’ve been too busy to blog it!!!
